God is the Same

Hebrews 13:8

The Issue

It has been pointed out that our world has become "smaller" because of the development of travel and the discoveries of radio, television and computer. We can hear and see the "news" today almost before it happens and in many cases, as it is actually taking place.

The stage of human life as crossed by human beings has also changed enormously. But those who cross the stage have not changed; human nature remains the same, and people today have the same essential passions as had our forefathers.

It would be nice to think that by and large we have advanced, but we haven't. The world isn't getting better; sometimes we think it is getting worse and we wonder what the world will be like in twenty or thirty years time. One has only to read the daily news to see the trend of events.

The stage of human life has exactly the same entrance and exit it always had: The entrance of birth and the exit of death. The journey is between the two fixed points as it has always been. Beyond death there is the same "heareafter," whatever people may think it is.

Conclusion

But, blessed be God, the eternal truths remain the same. God is the same; He does not change. And, as the writer of Hebrews tells us: "Jesus Christ" is the "same yesterday, today and forever." In light of that eternal, unchanging truth, let us be certain that He is our Hope and our Saviour and that we are to honor Him each day. Amen!
